Texas Hold’em is the most popular form of poker. Players start by putting money on the table (known as the ante), which is usually a small amount like $1 or $5. The dealer then deals two cards to each player and asks the player to make a bet or fold, check, or raise. Then, each player decides whether to make a bet or raise the amount of money on the table. The next two steps in poker are called raising and calling.
There are many different variations of poker, but the number of players must be at least seven to ensure that each player has a chance of winning. The pot is the total of bets made by all players in one round of betting, and the player with the highest-ranking poker hand wins the pot. However, if the player is the first to bet, he is said to be an active player. In this way, he is said to have “bet in.”

A 17th century French game called poque is believed to be the first known version of poker. This game eventually evolved into the German pochen, which was later developed into the modern version known as primero. French settlers brought the game to North America and later spread it all over the world.
