Global Television and CCTV International

The TV International, a Canadian cable television company is aiming to provide access to news channels from all around the world. It aims to cover the entire globe through its several stations and it plans to expand its reach with the launch of another Global City, which will be based in Nairobi, Kenya. The idea behind both ventures is to provide an array of shows for the international market and another inbound Chinese business opportunity, allowing people from that region to access Global TV. Other countries are yet to be targeted.

Both ventures are being funded by the China Film Development Corporation, a government company established in order to promote Chinese movies internationally. The US company is known as Globalentary, and it will use the business to strengthen its presence in the Chinese market, especially with the growing number of people who are now familiar with Chinese media culture. Chinese-speaking cultures are widespread throughout Africa, Latin America and Asia. The potential for growth seems limitless and many media outlets are already making plans to launch their own Chinese versions of CCTV and other popular international cable channels.

“The success of the venture depends on the sort of people that control it,” explains Jai Dverman, CEO of Globalentary, “because we are entering a new market here – the global marketplace. This is not the same as launching a local version of CCTV. We have a totally different business model.” “The other thing that distinguishes us is that we have the biggest name in the market,” adds Jai Dverman. “We also have a brand value that people will trust and will like because we’ve been around for a long time and have a track record.”
